There Is Nothing as Dangerous as a Bad Theory

Hans obtained his doctorate at Delft University of Technology (Information Systems department). He earned his Master of Science in Business Administration (MScBA) at Nyenrode Business Universiteit in 1994 and his Bachelor of Science in ICT at The Hague University of Applied Sciences (Computer Science) in 1993. He has published more than 100 articles in international journals and is the author of several books such as 'Rapid Enterprise Design', 'Enterprise Ontology, a Human-centric approach', 'Simplicity in Complexity' and 'Jonge Jongens'. Blockchain Is of Vital Importance: Challenges for Government and Education in the Low Countries, Is Your IT Under Control? The Tension Between IT Professionals and Non-IT Professionals, and Data Sovereignty for Local Governments: From Vision to Practice – A Roadmap for Digital Governance, Trust and Public Values. He also published several books in the Enterprise Engineering series, including Enterprise Ontology: A Human-Centric Approach, Enterprise Design: Settling an Enterprise’s Business and Devising the Enterprise Organisation, and Enterprise Governance & Management: Setting a Route for an Enterprise and Keeping the Enterprise on the Route, published by Springer. His books have been translated into English and Japanese. Hans writes the column High Performers for the magazine Computable and is a member of the jury of the associated Computable Awards. Since 2014 he has also been a member of the Entrepreneur Panel of BNR Radio. In addition, he is a professor at the Antwerp Management School and previously served as European Research Director at the Standish Group in Boston (USA).

Hans is a lecturer at the Police Academy of the Netherlands, Nyenrode Business Universiteit and a professor at the Antwerp Management School in Belgium. In addition, he is chairman of the advisory board of DUO (Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs) of the Ministery of Education, Culture and Science. He is also associated with the Academie voor de rechtspraktijk and The Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO).

IT-expert, mediator, arbitrator and negotiator

Hans is frequently called upon as an IT expert in situations where disputes must be resolved inside or outside of court. He is regularly involved in dispute resolution, including arbitration, mediation and expert reporting. Hans is a certified Judicial Expert and is registered as an Expert in the Netherlands (LRGD; the Dutch National Register of Court Experts), a member of NVBI (the Dutch Association of Court IT Experts) and of the EEEI (European Expertise and Expert Institute). He is an MfN- and ADR-register mediator and an arbitrator of the Netherlands Arbitration Institute in Rotterdam. Since 1996, he has been involved in more than 200 arbitrations, mediations and expert reports.
